8 ideas for a garden party in your garden

Even an unremarkable yard can look festive if you use a few tricks. The two most important things here are what you see and what you do at the party. Here are some concrete ideas to get you started:

  1. INSTALL THE CEILING.

The area feels more inviting when it looks like a room. Since the celebration is outside and you want to keep the natural vibe, there is no need to close off the space completely, but you can make pretend borders. If there is a big tree in your yard, use it as a border for the wall or ceiling and make the room feel even bigger: hang up long strings of colorful triangular flags, set out a long line of bright light bulbs, spread out paper decorations, attach a cloth cover to the tree like a sail and set up a dessert table below it.

Hang a flag garland to create virtual borders.

  1. HANG THE LAMP.

What is a ceiling without a lamp? Hang a real chandelier, or at least an imitation, and you will be amazed at how it changes the atmosphere of the party space. If you have time, make such a lamp yourself, use various fabrics, knitwear, especially transparent lace, paint using applied or sprayed paints, stencils. If you have a party idea in mind, let it shine with your chandelier: drape it in grass for a jungle theme, feather it for a Native American-themed children’s birthday party, or spray paint it with a checkered stencil for a bachelorette party.

  1. MAKE INTERESTING CANDLES.

Candlelight is that wonderful element that you can’t get enough of. You can not only place them on the terrace, on the windowsills and, of course, on the table..

Remember the false ceiling? Hang candles instead of lamps. It’s easy to make: put a candle in the jar and secure it, then fill about a third of the jar with coffee beans or other things of similar texture (beans, lenses of different colors, expanded clay drainage granules, etc.), wrap the neck of the jar tightly with wire, and form rings with that wire. Now you can hang the whole jar with a candle on the rope above the coziest place of the party. The more improvised candles, the better. Put a few more on the table and the coziest atmosphere is guaranteed.

  1. CREATE YOUR TABLE.

In order for the table to be not a place to sit, but a place for action, choose not one large table for food, but several different tables. Food can be served not even on the table, but on other objects: old sideboards taken outside, raised bar stools, a guitar case, just grass. Use tablecloths and placemats to protect surfaces.

Take advantage of different heights: children’s food can be served lower, while during a party with friends you can place desserts and cocktails as high as possible. In general, if you want to create a more interesting effect, serve the table not in width, but in height, vertical. Vases with flowers, two- or three-tier trays, trays for dishes from boxes, overturned glasses, wooden blocks – use everything to make the table not flat, but as voluminous as possible. Take it a step further: hang the cards or garlands we talked about earlier above the table.

  1. USE THE MATERIALS.

Nothing creates coziness like a variety of fabrics. You can even do without the table: a blanket with lots of cushions works wonders. Arrange trays of food that can be eaten with your hands in the center or at the sides of the table.

If you have a gazebo or other stand, hang lightweight curtains that flutter in the wind. Even if they do not perform any function, the atmosphere of the party is immediately much more pleasant.

If you have a large lawn without stands or trees for your farm party, simply place a lawn table in the center and place a large, long tablecloth on top. In this case the contrast works perfectly: set the table completely with cloth napkins, quality glass glasses and good utensils.

  1. SETTING UP AN OUTDOOR CINEMA.

Textiles can also be used in another way: inviting guests to watch films (or travel photos). Spread out a large white sheet and fix it vertically in at least four points, it will be like an outdoor cinema screen. Obtain a projector and check beforehand the required distance and the optimal size of the sheet. In the summer, plan this entertainment late enough, so that at least it has already started to get dark.

  1. SERVE YOUR GARDEN.

It’s nice for guests to taste what the hosts grow. Cake with our raspberries, bread with parsley pesto, cocktail with strawberry puree ( recipe here) – even simple berries, fruits or vegetables growing nearby can be used to create something interesting.

However, we want to encourage the supply of products grown and without any additives. In a beautiful ceramic bowl or a large brandy glass, you can serve well-dried currants, not very tasty actinides, sweet cherry tomatoes, fresh carrots and even peas with pods. Offer such a beautiful, healthy and tasty choice to children too.

  1. DON’T FORGET THE ENTERTAINMENT FOR CHILDREN.

There will always be something for kids to do outdoors, but there are things you can do to help them create their own entertainment. For the little ones, provide sand, pebbles, twigs, leaves and give them the task of creating a sort of drawing with these tools, sorting them based on size, color or other characteristics.

Even the lawn can be turned into a game: before the party, mow a part of the lawn not completely, but according to certain patterns, so that it is like a labyrinth and the children can run along the mowed paths.
