Varieties of tomatoes that demonstrate their value every year
Let’s start with what I have been growing in my greenhouse for several years. Here are the varieties of cherry tomatoes that have never disappointed me:
- ‘Medovaja kaplia’ – sweet and yellow cherry tomatoes;
- ‘Black Cherry’ – dark red cherry tomatoes.
Both varieties fits welland the most important thing is this they taste great. True, this time I only grew them one stem at a time, even though I could have grown more. By the way, I planted these tomatoes while lying down. Read more about why and how I did it – Click here.
The best tomato varieties 2020: discoveries and news
One of the best discoveries of 2020 for me is ‘Solar Gold F1’– a hybrid tomato variety. This the sweetest cherry tomatoes that we tasted. Very long, beautiful bunches, sweet, hard and crunchy tomatoes. I’m not happy I discovered this variety.

Take care of the graves in autumn, so that they are beautiful even in spring«Ola polka» – dwarf cherry tomatoes. Their fruits are small, juicy, not particularly sweet. These are the first tomatoes, more suitable for outdoor cultivation. Also, did you know that the same strain can taste different when grown in a greenhouse or outdoors? Tomatoes of this variety are much sweeter and tastier when grown outdoors. So I will definitely move them out next season.
‘Striped Cave’ – a large and very beautiful striped tomato. Similar to the pepper not only in shape, but also in the fact that there are empty cavities inside, so a lot suitable for filling and drying. The taste is typical of tomato, but the aroma is surprising. I can be happy that this tomato produced many tomatoes, even though the start of the season was very hot.
Excellent varieties of tomatoes that I have been growing for many years
‘Tigerella’ – another striped tomato. This variety is very productive, mow gradually, tomatoes – medium size, very tasty. The variety is truly amazing, but these were the first tomatoes where we noticed signs of brown spotting. I’m glad that at least one spray of Topu was enough (read more here) and the problem did not remain: the disease did not spread very strongly and the tomato crop was preserved. dressed in frills. Due to its beautiful shape it is perfect cut into slices decorate the salad. However… it doesn’t have any particular taste or aroma. Just one tomato and that’s it. It is neither too meaty nor juicy.
‘Sorento’ – fleshy, tasty, aromaticalmost buttery tomatoes. Very fertile. However, this variety cannot resist the hot start of the season: it has lost some flowers. True, potassium was missing: the tops of some tomatoes remained green. This does not mean that there was no potassium in the soil at all, because this time I fertilized additionally. Apparently, due to unfavorable environmental conditions, this variety simply could not absorb potassium in the soil.

Everyone in my family is an sworn lover of tomatoes, so we want the harvest of tomatoes grown by us to please us for as long as possible. For this reason, in my greenhouse I always grow long-life varieties of tomatoes, also called winter tomatoes. The best long-life tomato varieties of 2020 I bravely give up the title ‘Yellow Vesuvius’ varieties for tomatoes, because we still have them and enjoy them today, even if winter has already passed!
Another long-lived variety is ‘Pienolo del Vesuvius’. These are sweet tomatoes with a beautiful pointed shape. However, this time the leaves of these tomatoes were twisted, tired, which means that something was wrong with the tomatoes, although the harvest was still plentiful. We will plant these tomatoes outdoors next year.
And here it is ‘Long goalkeeper’ AND ‘Ponderosa’ at the end of August, when I shot the video, it was still green. These tomatoes are late.
Various other good varieties
You have probably realized that it is simply impossible to distinguish some of the best tomato varieties of 2020, as they all differ in size, shape, color, aroma and texture.
