Online landscaping courses: we present the programsSkaistė Vaishnoraitė-Blusienė: When we didn’t even have a farm, I was already putting together a vision of what the greenhouse would look like. It was supposed to be a space where I could grow vegetables and spend time comfortably with my loved ones. I didn’t want any type of greenhouse, so until the project was completed I only grew vegetables in raised beds.
Lina: Which greenhouse did you choose?
Chastity: The greenhouse of my dreams is made of glass. It wasn’t very cheap, so we just bought the metal frame. My husband and I built the foundation and painted it ourselves.
Assembly took time, but saved a lot of money. Since we only worked on weekends and the weather wasn’t cooperating, the project became all spring.

The incredible glory of Lithuania: Ła Marija was the first to win an Oscar for landscape designThe surface of the greenhouse is 18 m2. M. Approximately 12 m2. we left it for the vegetables and the remaining 6 m2. we have designated a staging area.
Given the dual purpose of the greenhouse, we decided to clad the base with variegated tiles – they provide coziness and are much easier to keep clean.
Lina: What grew in your greenhouse last season? What have you done to make maintenance easier?
Chastity: I grew vegetables in plastic containers. I think the most important thing is to prepare the soil well: I mixed the garden soil with agroperlite, compost and long-term fertilizers. Therefore, apart from watering, greenhouse plants did not require much care – a real garden for the lazy.

Advent wreath: how to make with what you have at homeIn spring lettuce, cucumbers and other first fruits grew here. I later grew tomatoes and peppers. Decorative potted flowers liked flowers.
A beautiful greenhouse is not just for growing tomatoes
Lina: Skaiste, I dare say your greenhouse looks like a magazine cover. How do you create comfort? Which elements do you like the most?
Chastity: I’m creating a greenhouse like another room. The relaxation area has antique chairs, a bed, many interior details, even an electric fireplace.
Comfort is given above all by the textiles: I used light-coloured cushions, here some white curtains are also hung, which in a certain sense separate the relaxation area from that of the garden. A string of lights beautifully illuminates the greenhouse after dark.

«Garden Style 2017» is an inspiring event on the latest trendsMy favorite is an iron bed. We found it abandoned in a vacant lot nearby. With it we sifted 8 tons of gravel for foundations and flooring. I then cleaned it, refinished it and painted it black. I believe it will serve well for many years to come.
Lina: That’s probably not the only thing you updated in the greenhouse?
Chastity: Most of the items in our greenhouse and on the entire farm are purchased second hand, second hand or simply refurbished. Old things have been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. In childhood, I think, more for reasons of thrift, and later awareness prevented me from buying expensive things, knowing what treasures could be found. Over the years I have developed an eye for this.
Lina: Do you like the greenhouse only during the season? What is his fate when the weather turns cold?
Chastity: In the fall, after harvesting the vegetables, we moved the growing containers out of the greenhouse and expanded the recreation area. Here we built a dining table and hung even more lights: the greenhouse has become an ideal place to spend autumn evenings with family and friends.
Now a beautiful greenhouse, previously an abandoned farm
Lina: Do you like doing other things on your own?
Chastity: Today our farm is as different as night and day from the view we found when we first arrived here. The densely green courtyard was also neglected for several decades. But this didn’t scare us at all.
Ever since I was a teenager I have had unusual dreams: I have always wanted my little corner of nature. Over the years I have read many farm and land ads. Therefore, I did not hesitate at all when I saw this financially interesting offer – an abandoned plot in my father’s native village. My husband and I decided to buy the land without even seeing it in person!
There was an old garden on the property, and the grass and bushes were so tall and thick that you couldn’t even see the entrance. I had to cut the fence everywhere and start cleaning. Most of the villagers twiddled their thumbs and felt sorry for us. But my husband and I believed this was THE place and we fell in love with the plot. And over time we managed everything ourselves.
Lina: Thanks, Skaist, for an explosion of inspiration that many things can be created by yourself – all you need are ideas!
