Make your own elderflower ointment

Making elderflower ointment is easy and requires only a few ingredients. We have created a step by step guide:

Necessary:

  • 4-5 elderflower umbels
  • 50 g of olive oil
  • 50 g of argan oil

You can also use another oil of your choice for the oil extract. Olive oil and argan oil are great for hydrating your skin. If you don’t like the smell of olive oil, you can also use more odorless oils like almond oil.

  1. Preparation: Only the flowers are used and not the green parts of the plant.
  2. Fill: Place the elderflowers in a clean screw-top jar or glass bottle.
  3. Adding oil: Drizzle the flowers completely with olive oil and argan oil.
  4. maturation: Leave the jar in a warm, sunny place for about three weeks. Do not close the container with a lid, simply cover it with a cloth that can be secured with a rubber band or ring.
  5. Treatment: Shake the oily extract lightly every two days to evenly distribute the ingredients.

After three weeks, your oil extract is ready to be transformed into the beneficial elderflower ointment.

Instructions for elderflower ointment

Use homemade elderflower oil to make a soothing ointment. After about three weeks, strain the plant parts and use the following ingredients:

  • 25 g of shea butter
  • 12 g beeswax (e.g. from Beegut)
  • 5 drops of vitamin E (optional)

Directions:

  1. Heat: Place the elderflower oil in a glass jar in a bain-marie and heat it on the stove.
  2. Add the ingredients: Add the beeswax and shea butter and stir until the ingredients are completely melted and combined.
  3. Add vitamin E: Optionally, you can add 5 drops of liquid vitamin E to extend the shelf life of the ointment.
  4. Bottling: Pour the liquid ointment into clean jars and let them cool. Do not close the jar until the ointment has completely cooled to avoid condensation.
  5. warehousing: Stored in a cool, dark place, Vitamin E Ointment will last at least a year.
