An absolutely subjective review, which varieties of the tastiest tomatoes grew in my greenhouse this year: how could it be otherwise? Check out the video where I cut them all up so you can see the inside of the tomato. Or simply read below. Like every year I present to you those varieties that have worked and those that I will give up next year:
Cherry tomatoes: my observations

This year I grow three varieties of cherry tomatoes.
Tomatoes ‘Black Cherry’ – dark, extremely juicy. The bushes are very tall, fruitful, and the tomatoes themselves soon begin to turn red.

A beautiful plot in winter: practical advice on how to make it.The only concern is that these tomatoes will burst very quickly. This happens for two reasons:
- when they are too ripe
- when constant humidity is not guaranteed, let’s say you didn’t water for a while and then watered abundantly.
To prevent these tomatoes from splitting, just keep them constantly moist and harvest them before they are fully ripe.
You can learn the secrets of growing vegetables from an expert: we invite you to the course «Modern garden». These are detailed distance training courses for those who want to grow plants not by intuition, but based on scientific knowledge and practice accumulated by experienced gardeners.
More cherry tomatoes ‘Medovaja kaplia’ – they are beautiful for their color and for their shape they look like pears. I would classify them as sweet cherry tomatoes, maybe that’s why kids like them so much.

Tomatoes that do not need pruning: all about themIf you don’t collect for a long time, it just falls off. We don’t usually do this, but we went away for a few days and when we returned we found them falling like yellow drops. I can recommend this variety to everyone and confidently classify it as one of the tastiest tomato varieties.
Hybrid tomatoes «Cherry H» – a small tomato breaks very easily (does not tear the fruit itself), and tomatoes are special because they are sweet, crunchy, hard. And indeed, the bunches look fantastic.
Elongated tomatoes: I have two varieties
Elongated tomatoes ‘San Marzano 2’: the plant is not very tall (1.5 m), so I recommend you pick this type if you have short greenhouses. The flavor is very good, and it has very little liquid. This makes them great for salads and drying. The shape is long, which makes it good for canning without chopping.
‘Gigilo’ – a completely different kind of tomatoes with a long shape, although it looks the same as ‘San Marzano 2’ and is the same size.

Greenhouse in spring or how to prepare a greenhouse after winterI got the seeds as a present, but I heard that these plants should be trimmed. So I believe the type I have is called something else. There are many variations with interesting names linked to them («Ghigolo» and «Casanova» are the easier ones), so I can’t say for sure what we are growing here.
Tomato varieties that we will no longer grow
I hoped so «By Barao Chiornyj‘(black) will be fine, but it doesn’t have the strong tomato flavor I was expecting. Although it is not as expressive, it has an ideal shape for canning, so we will use it, but we will not grow it anymore.
«Ox Hearts» – beef heart cherry tomatoes. We also grew these tomatoes last year (you can find last year’s review by clicking here). Their taste is very good, the tomato itself is meaty, super tasty. However, the green top of the tomato indicates a lack of potassium.
We also faced this problem last year, so this year we fertilized with potassium fertilizer on time, but due to large temperature changes, the potassium was apparently not absorbed well.

How to plant a terrace, especially when part of the plants are in the shadeAlmost a quarter of the tomato is taken up by the hard green part, it’s really a shame to grow it and then throw that part away. We will not grow this variety next year, because there are others that do not have this deficiency.
‘Cardinal’ – the bush is not tall, the tomato has a beautiful shape, it is tasty. This variety is definitely one of the tastiest tomato varieties. The only drawback is that the harvest is not abundant. I’m still thinking about it, but the poor harvest will probably lead to the decision to abandon this variety next year.
Like everyone mentioned here the inside of a tomatocheck out the video where I cut them all. Only then can you see whether the tomato is plump, juicy or dry. Link to video at the top of this article.
Varieties of the tastiest tomatoes
Medium sized tomatoes «The Black Prince» – balanced taste, has both sweetness and acidity. Nothing to add, great proven variety.
‘Red Pear’ -ribbed tomatoes with a wonderful flavor and fleshy pulp. Abundant harvest, the tomatoes are medium sized, but this year one weighs around 800 g. The branches even break due to the weight and abundance. We grow them not for the first year. I recommend!
By the way, a condition for a plentiful harvest of tomatoes and a healthy bush is the correct pruning of tomatoes (more information on pruning tomatoes – Click here).
‘Pineapple’ – even large tomatoes, even if the shrub is not very productive, but at least for us these tomatoes are among the most loved. Their special color: the pulp is yellow, sometimes turning orange or pink. Instagram like this.
‘Cream black’ – darker tomatoes, very juicy and very tasty. After all, I said this review is subjective! We don’t know if these tomatoes last long after harvesting, because in our family they consume very quickly, so we simply finish them for winter supplies.
And I would classify it as one of the most beautiful tomatoes ‘To have lunch’ race. These tomatoes have a beautiful solid yellow color and a mild, tart flavor.
If you have to create something beautiful, enrich the dish with a fruity yellow color: this variety is very suitable for this purpose.
Beginners:
We are still evaluating them, we are trying to get to know each other, and I present to you:
The tomatoes settled in the greenhouse this year ‘Sorento’. Obviously these tomatoes also lack potassium. However, the deficiency was not so strong, the tops turned green only in some places.
The bush is very productive and the tomatoes are large. We will definitely grow it again next year and enter the list of the tastiest tomato varieties.
‘Yellow Vesuvius’ – smaller tomatoes of a warm yellow shade with a tail. This variety is later: the first impression is not bad, but I have to wait for the real result. We’ll see in the autumn if they last longer. The bunches ripen well at the same time, so we will try to harvest them in bunches and store them longer.
‘Pienolo del Vesuvius’ – very sweet, hard tomatoes, growing in very beautiful bunches. Delicious even now, as if mixed with sugar.
But they are also appreciated for the fact that it is possible to harvest the whole bunch and therefore preserve the tomatoes long after the season. So far they don’t seem to be ripening at the same time, so I don’t know how to gather them all here. We’ll try.
‘Ponderosa’ – It is said that these tomatoes will keep until Christmas. They are still green in early August. We’ll talk about it later. I also grow these tomatoes outdoors, but you can tell from the leaves that they don’t like growing outdoors at all.
«Churma» – I grow these beautiful orange tomatoes outdoors. Their taste is expressive, real tomato: I had heard many positive reviews about this variety. Outdoors, due to their color, they go very well with serenades to ward off parasites. By the way, after watching the video, you will see that «Churma» does not have a clearly expressed top.
