We are happy that a green designer from Lithuania also went there – Monika Sliesoraitytė. He gladly agreed to share some new impressions about the event, which dictates global landscape trends.
Lina Lubertaitė: What inspired you to go to this exhibition?
Monika Sliesoraitytė: since I am a landscape designer, I design the environment in the territories of private houses, for me it is very important to be diversified in this field. Such an ambitious event as the Chelsea Flower Show 2018 combines endless styles and tastes, so after being there, you will be powdered for new projects almost a year in advance. You also expand your worldview as a designer, improve your space planning skills, and begin to delve more and more into the very essence of the garden and its environment. You just start creating it not just as a series of plants, but as an interactive element in people’s daily lives.
Lina: What made the difference Chelsea Flower Show 2018What is your overall impression of her?
Monica: This exhibition stood out this year in that the participants’ gardens were rich not only in multicolored flowers, but also in small architectural elements that, when properly used, enrich any garden style. I also noticed a number of interesting solutions for separating plants from the lawn or paths, in the variety of water bodies and fountains, new varieties derived from well-known plants caught my attention. In general I reported the most positive impressions of the exhibition.

What are the most valuable tomatoes? Dietitian Vaida Kurpienė answers:Lina: Tell me how the winning garden came to you when you saw it in person?
Monica: was nominated this year Chris Beardshaw «Morgan Stanley Garden for the NSPCC» drinkswhich by the way was one of my favourites. The sensations of watching the garden live correspond fully to the concept of the garden and the idea of transmitting the emotional experiences of children who suffer violence. The entrance to the garden begins at first glance with a chaotic combination of plants and a path that seems to disappear among the plants. Going deeper into the garden, you reach a wooden pavilion, partially surrounded by a calm water channel, which, unlike the beginning of the garden, is landscaped in a very minimalist way. Therefore, the transition from a chaotic feeling to a state of calm was felt even in an exhibition crowded with people. A garden that leaves a very profound mark and is worth conquering.
Lina: Have you also visited the garden created by » Garden style Conferences 2018″ speaker Nic Howard. What impression did it leave?
Monica: I followed the emergence of this garden designer Facebook AND instagram reports from the sketch to the garden layout and presentation at the exhibition. It became a favorite long before the exhibition. Creator of extraordinary sculptures David Harberwho helped design this garden, I knew him from a previous visit to the Chelsea Flower Show in 2014. So I was sure that in reality the garden would be better than the sketch, but also better than the photos. what to cut, what to leave, when to coverThe photo of Nic’s garden shows lupins, catnip, woolly notra, peonies, gojinia and hybrid salvias, rasakilas, sedges, garlic, sedges, sedges, etc. They also fit perfectly into the Lithuanian garden.
The most interesting thing is that metal garden structures create a completely different view of the garden when passing by and allow you to see the garden not only from a different angle, but also discover new garden structures and spaces.
Lina: What detail or decor used in the gardens caught your attention?
Monica: A lot this year too cut metal, but I also noticed quite a few copper elements: from vases and decorations for flower gardens, to fountains and even outdoor furniture. Aged mirrors for the garden or terrace have also attracted attention: a splendid solution if the space is small and you want to create an optical illusion.
Lina: Which plants would you choose from the exhibit that caught your attention?
Monica: It is impossible to single out an interesting combination, although most of them look similar in terms of color solutions or species composition, but at the same time they are very different. Since the eyes are full of colors, I liked the combinations that stood out not in the colors, but in the texture of the plants, when many shades of green were used, but only in some places were placed plants of different shapes and textures of leaves and a few colorful flowers.
